Dyslexia Tutor, Sunshine Coast
Hi, I'm Becky.
I'm the person behind Confident Brains - a qualified teacher with training in structured literacy, and someone who understands dyslexia from personal experience.
My story
Where it started
My journey into literacy support is both personal and professional. I completed my schooling in the UK, where I experienced the challenges of dyslexia first-hand. It was my mum, a teacher, who recognised the signs and helped me receive a diagnosis at the age of 11. Through private structured literacy intervention, I was given the tools and strategies that transformed my learning. With this support, I gained the confidence to complete school independently and continue on to university, where I studied Sociology before completing my Postgraduate qualification in Education.
Training & experience
I have also completed the Wilson Reading System introductory course, further strengthening my knowledge of structured literacy approaches to support students with reading difficulties.
I went on to teach in the UK, Dubai, and Hong Kong, working with a wide range of learners and educational settings. These experiences have shaped my understanding of how to support students effectively and compassionately.
Why I created Confident Brains
Now based on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, where my own children have begun their schooling journey, I have created Confident Brains. My goal is to provide children and young adults with focused, structured literacy instruction that can be applied across all areas of learning. The tools and strategies I teach are designed to build not only strong literacy skills, but also confidence, independence, and a lasting love of learning.
How I work
The principles that guide every session.
Structured, evidence-based teaching
Every session is guided by structured literacy and the science of reading. Skills are taught explicitly, systematically, and in a clear sequence - building strong foundations for reading and spelling.
Every child has an individual pathway
No two children learn in the same way. I take the time to understand each child's strengths and challenges, and create a personalised program that builds skills step by step.
Confidence comes first
Many children I work with have lost confidence in reading. I create a calm, supportive environment where children feel safe to learn, take risks, and begin to see success.
Working together with families
You are an important part of your child's progress. I keep you informed, share practical strategies, and work alongside you to support your child's learning both in and out of sessions.
